Schloss Sachsenburg stands on a rocky spur above the Zschopau river, near Frankenberg/Sa. in Saxony. Built around 1480 for Caspar von Schönberg on the remains of a fortress already recorded in the 13th century, it ranks among the few fully preserved late Gothic residential castles in Saxony. Its wings enclose a triangular courtyard, a layout inherited from the earlier medieval stronghold. Over time the building served many purposes, from administrative seat to place of detention, before entering a long process of restoration.
