Schnaditz Castle stands in Bad Düben, in the Landkreis Nordsachsen, in Saxony, on the site of a former moated stronghold built around 1237 in the marshland of the Mulde river. Its 29-metre defensive tower still dominates the site, a legacy of the extensive rebuilding carried out from the 15th century onward under the von Zaschnitz family, who held the estate for nearly two centuries. The place also carries a mark of 20th-century history: General Hans Oster, involved in the plot against Hitler, was arrested here in 1944.
