Schloss Neusorge stands at Zschöppichen, in the Landkreis Mittelsachsen, in Saxony, on the site of a knight's estate first recorded in the 14th century. The present building, a large three-winged baroque complex arranged around a courtyard of honour, dates from a rebuilding begun after a fire in 1745 and only completed by the late 1760s. Left empty since 1993, after decades as a children's home and later a school, the castle is now in an advanced state of decay, with its former orangery garden largely overgrown. A memorial to the Swedish philanthropist Elsa Brändström, who ran a children's home there in the 1920s, was unveiled in front of the restored gatehouse in 2014.
