Schloss Purschenstein stands in Neuhausen/Erzgeb. (Landkreis Mittelsachsen), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Purschenstein rises above the Flöha valley in Neuhausen/Erzgeb., built on a rocky spur that carried a toll fortress from around 1200, set up to guard a salt road leading into Bohemia. Little remains of that medieval structure beyond the 42-metre keep dating to the 13th or 14th century, with walls nearly three metres thick, the rest of the complex reflecting later rebuilding after fires struck in 1800, 1842 and 1989. The von Schönberg family, who turned the fortress into a Renaissance residence in the mid-16th century, held it for close to six centuries until their expropriation in 1945.
