To make a day of it

Schloss Frauenstein stands in Frauenstein (Landkreis Mittelsachsen), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 18th century. No visits are on record for this building.

In Frauenstein, Saxony, the Schloss stands just below the older Burg it was built to replace once that fortress no longer met its owners' standards of comfort. Erected in the late 16th century for Heinrich von Schönberg, the building consists of two wings meeting at a right angle, topped with slate hipped roofs and a round stair tower crowned with a Baroque cupola. Its main portal, flanked by columns and bearing two coats of arms joined by a figure of Cupid, commemorates the marriage linking the von Schönberg and von Einsiedel families. The 18th century interior once housed a local history museum and a collection devoted to organ builder Gottfried Silbermann, since relocated elsewhere in town.
