The Burg Sayda was a medieval stronghold built on a rocky spur above the town of Sayda in the Erzgebirge, guarding the old salt road between Halle and Prague. First recorded in 1236 as a noble seat and again in 1289 as a fortified town, it was destroyed in 1634 during the Thirty Years' War and never rebuilt in its original form. Today only a 19th century house stands on its foundations, while the earthen ramparts that once encircled the town can still be traced in an almost complete loop.
