To make a day of it

Schloss Sandersdorf stands in Altmannstein (Landkreis Eichstätt), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 17th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Sandersdorf overlooks the village bearing its name from a rocky spur roughly fifty metres high, above the Schambach valley, in Altmannstein, in the Landkreis Eichstätt, Bavaria. Built on the foundations of a medieval stronghold belonging to the lords of Sandersdorf, the present four-winged building largely dates from the rebuilding carried out after the Thirty Years' War, completed by 1646. Notable features include the chapel of St Joseph, topped by an octagonal domed tower, which still holds a Romanesque tympanum and a crucifix attributed to the Günther workshop. The castle is also remembered as a meeting place for Count Thomas de Bassus, a member of the Bavarian Illuminati, whose home was searched by officials in 1787.
