Burg Arnsberg rises on a rocky outcrop above the village of Arnsberg, within the Altmühltal nature park, roughly one hundred and twenty metres above the valley floor. Only wall fragments and the stump of a keep survive from the medieval stronghold, while the outer bailey has been converted into a hotel. The ruined main castle, open to the public without restriction, still shows its thirteenth century oval curtain wall built of carefully cut limestone blocks.
