To make a day of it
Burg Altmannstein stands in Altmannstein (Landkreis Eichstätt), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Altmannstein is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle standing at 435 metres above sea level, overlooking the town of Altmannstein. Built in the 13th century by Altmann II von Abensberg after the lords of Stein died out, it passed through several hands, including Duke Louis the Severe of Bavaria. What remains today is an 18 metre high keep, scant traces of the residential building and sections of wall, the last surviving marks of a turbulent history that included a conquest by troops from Nuremberg in 1446.
