To make a day of it

Schloss Lich stands in Lich (Landkreis Gießen), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Lich stands in the old town of Lich, in Hesse, on the site of a former moated stronghold built by the lords of Falkenstein and later held by the house of Solms. Little remains visible of the medieval fortress beyond its layout and the memory of its four corner towers, since the present appearance, with mansard roofs and octagonal onion domes, results from major Baroque rebuilding campaigns in the 17th and 18th centuries. Still the private residence of the princely family of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich, the palace itself is not open to visitors, though its surrounding park is publicly accessible. The Gobelin Hall, noted for its acoustics, is occasionally used for chamber concerts open to the public.

What to know

  • The interior of the Schloss is a private residence and cannot be visited.
  • The surrounding park, however, is freely open to the public.
  • The Gobelin Hall is only accessible to the public during occasional chamber music concerts.
  • The site is listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Hesse.
  • Some former outbuildings of the old farm courtyard now house medical practices and housing, unrelated to any visit of the palace.
