Burg Grüningen stands in the town of Pohlheim, in Hesse, as the ruin of a moated castle raised around the 12th and 13th centuries. Of the original square enclosure, a stump of a round tower now used as a viewing platform and the remains of a hall building with a rebuilt half-timbered upper floor still survive. The earliest recorded owners were linked to the Münzenberg family, before the site passed to the counts of Eppstein and later to the Solms family. Left to decay long before the Thirty Years' War, the ruin was painstakingly restored by a local heritage association starting in 1983.
