Burg Arnsburg is a ruined spur castle overlooking the Wetter river, near the former Kloster Arnsburg. Built around the year 1000 by the lords of Hagen and Arnsburg, it was abandoned as early as 1156 and later stripped of its stones for centuries, eventually vanishing almost entirely under drifting sand. Excavations carried out in 1984 and 1985 uncovered the foundations of the tower, the surrounding wall and the deep well that visitors can now see on site.
