To make a day of it
Schloss Hohenerxleben stands in Staßfurt (Salzlandkreis), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Hohenerxleben stands on a limestone outcrop above the Bode river, at the northern edge of the village of Hohenerxleben. The present building layers several construction phases together: an east wing dating from the early sixteenth century, an eighteenth century central section joining the two older houses, a Biedermeier west wing built in 1807, and a neo-Renaissance tower added in the late nineteenth century by the Hanoverian architect Ferdinand Schorbach. The estate remained in the hands of a single family, the von Krosigk, for nearly four and a half centuries.
What to know
- The castle stood empty and deteriorating from 1991 to 1997, suffering vandalism, before a gradual restoration began under a dedicated foundation.
- The building is now used as a hotel, restaurant and theatre, which shapes what can actually be visited.
- A landscape park, laid out from 1800 onward, surrounds the castle and stretches along the Bode river toward Schloss Neugattersleben.
- As no opening hours, prices or access conditions are included in our data, visitors should check directly before coming.
