Schloss Plötzkau stands in Plötzkau (Salzlandkreis), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Plötzkau stands on the site of a medieval count's stronghold first recorded in 1049, beside the Saale river. The present building, erected between 1566 and 1573 under Prince Bernhard of Anhalt, incorporated the older keep, which was raised to seven storeys and topped with a four-gabled roof. From 1611 to 1665 it served as residence of the principality of Anhalt-Plötzkau before passing through very different uses, including a factory, a penal institution and a museum storage facility. Now managed by the Kulturstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt, the Renaissance building retains its distinctive facades with gabled dormer windows.
