To make a day of it

Schloss Ilberstedt stands in Ilberstedt (Salzlandkreis), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Ilberstedt stands in Ilberstedt, in the Salzlandkreis district of Saxony-Anhalt, on the banks of the river Wipper. This late baroque manor house was built between 1799 and 1801 for councillor Johann Karl Andreas Freiherr von Braunbehrens, on the site of a farmstead formerly held by the von Biedersee family. Its two-storey facade is organised around a central three-bay section with a triangular pediment, flanked by two five-bay wings. A double-flight stone staircase leads to the entrance, while an older gate tower from the early eighteenth century still marks the approach from the street.

What to know

  • The building currently stands empty and in poor structural condition, so there is no access to the interior.
  • No opening hours or admission fees are published, and the site is essentially seen from the outside.
  • The adjoining park along the river Wipper can still be viewed from the surrounding area.
  • The nearby gate tower, older than the manor house itself, is recognisable by its clipped hip roof.
  • The site is reached by car from around Bernburg, as Ilberstedt itself is a small village.
