Burg Wanzleben stands at the northern edge of the town of Wanzleben-Börde, along the old military road that once linked Magdeburg to Hadmersleben, and is one of the stops on the Straße der Romanik. Laid out as a round castle surrounded by double moats and ramparts, it retains a Romanesque keep from the 13th century rising thirty metres, with records of settlement here going back to 968. The residential and farm buildings show the marks of later alterations, including work in the 16th century and further changes in the 18th and 19th centuries. Since a reconstruction begun in the 1990s, the site now houses a hotel and restaurant.
