To make a day of it

Schloss Eichenbarleben stands in Hohe Börde (Landkreis Börde), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Schloss Eichenbarleben stands in the municipality of Hohe Börde, amid the farmland of the Magdeburger Börde region in Saxony-Anhalt. For nearly four centuries the estate belonged to the von Alvensleben family, who raised it to an independent lordship from 1565 onward, before it passed to the von Krosigk family by inheritance in 1858. The building seen today, a manor house erected between 1701 and 1703 for Gebhard XXVII von Alvensleben, replaced an earlier residential wing destroyed during wartime, and still bears the combined coat of arms of its builder and his wife Helena von der Schulenburg above the entrance. A nearby church connected to the same family holds burial monuments from the 16th to 18th centuries.

What to know

  • The building is privately owned and no restoration is known to have taken place since its purchase in 2003.
  • No visiting hours or admission fees are available, suggesting limited or no public access.
  • It stands in the open farmland of the Börde region, close to a historic church belonging to the same former estate.
  • Despite being called a Schloss, it is an early 18th century manor house rather than a medieval fortress.
