Schloss Erxleben, in Erxleben, Landkreis Börde, Sachsen-Anhalt, stands on the site of a medieval stronghold once surrounded by moats and earthworks in the lowlands. Passed to the von Alvensleben family from 1282 onward, it suffered repeated sieges and destruction before being split in 1554 between two branches of the family, giving rise to two separate complexes known as Erxleben I and Erxleben II. The main attraction today is the chapel of St Godehard, built jointly by both branches between 1562 and 1580, which contains burial vaults cut into the rock across several levels along with numerous gravestones and memorial plaques. An early 18th century baroque organ, recently restored, forms part of this heritage ensemble.
