Schloss Bartensleben stands on a small island surrounded by a broad moat in Groß Bartensleben, part of the municipality of Erxleben. Built in the mid eighteenth century for the von Veltheim family on the foundations of an earlier moated castle, this baroque sandstone building consists of three wings topped with mansard hip roofs. The interior, extended in 1757 and fitted out in rococo style, lost much of its original character, including a staircase with gallery, during alterations made under East German rule. The adjoining landscape park, laid out on the site of an earlier baroque garden, has been undergoing restructuring since 2008.
