The Hallenburg stands in Disternich, part of the municipality of Vettweiß, surrounded by its moat on a slightly raised site. The brick main house, built in the 16th century by the von Efferen family known as Hall, still has the form of a medieval residential tower, though it was never meant for serious defence. Its mullioned windows are framed in pale sandstone and fitted with blue and white shutters, beneath a steep hipped roof topped with weathervanes. The original outbuildings were destroyed in the Second World War and replaced by an office building in the 1970s.
