To make a day of it

Burgruine Ramspau stands in Regenstauf (Landkreis Regensburg), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burg Ramspau is the surviving ruin of a small spur castle set on the Schlossberg, close to the church of the Ramspau district within the municipality of Regenstauf. The site still shows an almost complete pentagonal keep with rubble-stone walls about 1.5 metres thick and an outward-facing slit window. Open cellar vaults on the slope side hint at further buildings that once stood there.

What to know

  • The ruin stands on the Schlossberg, about 400 metres west-southwest of the church in Ramspau, a district of Regenstauf.
  • It is an open-air ruin with no enclosed building to visit, limited mainly to the keep and a few cellar remains.
  • The ground rises toward a rocky plateau separated by a ditch, so reaching the site involves some uphill walking.
  • The site is listed as a Baudenkmal in Bavaria, and the former castle ground is also protected as a Bodendenkmal.
  • No verified details on opening hours, fees or facilities are available, so access appears to be unstructured and free.
