To make a day of it

Burgruine Adlerstein stands in Wellheim (Landkreis Eichstätt), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burgruine Adlerstein sits at the tip of a rocky spur overlooking Aicha, part of the municipality of Wellheim in Bavaria. Only the foundation remains of a residential tower survive, including a window and a loophole, along with an eight-metre-deep cave at the base of the crag. Also known as Alte Bürg or Altenstein, the site's early history is uncertain and clouded by misreadings in old records, alongside a local legend echoing the Rumpelstiltskin motif. Pottery fragments found here point to occupation as far back as the Bronze Age.
