To make a day of it

Burg Hütting stands in Rennertshofen (Landkreis Neuburg-Schrobenhausen), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Hütting is a medieval ruin standing on a steep rocky outcrop 440 metres high, overlooking the village of Hütting, part of Rennertshofen in Bavaria. Almost nothing remains of the original structure except one wall of the former hall building, the rest having long since disappeared. What draws visitors here is less the ruin itself than its striking position above the Wellheimer Trockental valley.

What to know

  • Only very limited remains survive on site, mainly one wall of the former hall building.
  • The rock can only be climbed from the west side, the other sides dropping almost vertically.
  • The rocky outcrop carrying the ruin is also listed as a geotope by the Bavarian environmental authority.
  • No verified opening hours or admission fees exist, as this is an unstaffed outdoor ruin.
  • The visit suits those seeking a viewpoint and a walk over natural terrain rather than a restored monument.
