Burg Steinsberg stands in Weiler (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 12th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Steinsberg Castle crowns the summit of an extinct volcano above the Kraichgau region, standing 333 metres high, which earned it the nickname of the area's compass since it can be seen from afar. Founded by the von Steinsberg family before passing around 1180 to the Counts of Oettingen, it owes its present form to them, as they raised a twelve-sided curtain wall and, after 1220, an octagonal keep on behalf of the Staufer emperors. Burned down during the Peasants' War in 1525 and later rebuilt, it remained the seat of the Lords of Venningen until the early 18th century before falling into decay. The keep, the towers and the moat can still be visited today.
