Burgruine Zavelstein stands in Bad Teinach-Zavelstein (Landkreis Calw), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 12th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Perched on a spur above the Teinach valley, Zavelstein Castle preserves the remains of a stronghold raised around the mid 13th century by the Counts of Württemberg. Visitors can still make out two defensive ditches, the gateway, the ruined palas and a vaulted cellar, sections of the old walls, and the 28 metre keep, which was converted into a viewing tower in 1844. Turned into a residence in the 17th century and then wrecked by Melac's troops in 1692, the site was never rebuilt and remains a ruin to this day.
