To make a day of it

Burg Waldeck (Odenwald) stands in Vorderheubach (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Waldeck is a ruined stronghold set on a small isolated hill, 315 metres high, between the Steinach valley and that of its tributary the Heubach, close to the hamlet of Schafhof in the Odenwald. Built in the thirteenth century by the lords of Strahlenberg, it once controlled the outlet of three cleared valleys. Only remnants of a flanking tower and sections of the outer curtain wall survive today, the castle having been destroyed at the start of the Thirty Years' War. Visitors come for the modest ruins rather than for any restored architecture.
