Burg Hohensolms stands on the Ramsberg hill, at roughly 430 metres above sea level, in the municipality of Hohenahr in Hesse. Built in 1350 by the Counts of Solms to replace an older stronghold destroyed the year before, it served as a residence for several branches of the Solms family until the 18th century. The T-shaped main building, whose core dates to the 14th century, still contains an 18th-century timber staircase, a vaulted knights' hall, and the remains of an octagonal keep that vanished around the same period.
