Burg Grillenburg stands in Sangerhausen (Landkreis Mansfeld-Südharz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burg Grillenburg is a medieval ruin lying east of the village of Grillenberg, a district of Sangerhausen in Saxony-Anhalt. First recorded in 1217 as 'Grellenberch', it stood guard over the Sanger valley and is notable for its use of brick, an unusual building material for a fortification of that period in the area. Ownership changed hands repeatedly over the centuries, passing through the Dukes of Brunswick and later the von Morungen family, before the castle gradually fell into decay while remaining inhabited in part. The site today is reached on foot as part of a hiking route and forms one of the stamping points of the Harzer Wandernadel trail network.
