To make a day of it

Altes Schloss Sangerhausen stands in Sangerhausen (Landkreis Mansfeld-Südharz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Altes Schloss Sangerhausen stood on the highest point of the former town fortifications of Sangerhausen, in Saxony-Anhalt. Of the building first recorded in 1271, only scattered remains survive today, including part of the palas, fragments of the gatehouse, and a tower known as the witches' tower, the only part still standing to any real height. That name recalls the twenty-seven witch trials documented on the site between 1536 and 1710, when the castle served as the seat of the local bailiffs and as a court.
