To make a day of it
Schloss Wallhausen (Helme) stands in Wallhausen (Landkreis Mansfeld-Südharz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 17th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Wallhausen occupies the site of an earlier estate, tracing back to a Saxon royal and imperial residence of the 10th and 11th centuries and later to a medieval moated castle with its own St Martin's chapel. The present H-shaped building dates largely from the early 17th century, when Ludwig von der Asseburg had the west wing, a tower and adjoining living quarters built in Renaissance style. A vaulted, two-aisled late Gothic hall survives in the basement of the west wing. Converted into a hotel in the early 2000s, the Schloss suffered a major fire in 2026 that destroyed the roof structure and much of the second floor.
