Burg Geyern refers to the remains of a medieval spur castle north of the village of Geyern, in the municipality of Bergen, Bavaria. Built in the 12th or 13th century, it was the original seat of the local lords, later known as the Schenken von Geyern, before they moved to a nearby second site where the Schloss Geyern now stands. Only earthworks and several ditches cut into the terrain survive, no standing structure remains. A visit here means reading an earthwork landscape rather than touring a building.
What to know
- No building survives on site, only ditches and earthen ramparts trace the former castle's outline.
- The site lies roughly 350 meters from the center of the village of Geyern, on a wooded spur.
- This original castle should not be confused with the nearby Schloss Geyern, built on the second site the family later occupied.

- A visit means walking through a wooded earthwork landscape, with no known visitor facilities.
