Burg Wernfels stands in Spalt (Landkreis Roth), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Wernfels rises above the Rezat valley near Spalt in Bavaria, on a wooded spur of the Rangau. Built from the second half of the 13th century by the imperial ministerials of Rindsmaul, it later passed to the prince-bishops of Eichstätt, who expanded it during the 14th and 15th centuries. The three-storey main building in rusticated stone, together with the Gothic gatehouse and surrounding wall, still define the site today. Since 1925 the castle has belonged to the Bavarian branch of the CVJM and operates as a youth hostel.
