To make a day of it

Château du Prince Noir stands in Talence (Gironde), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 16th century, 17th century, 19th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In Talence, on the edge of Bordeaux, the Château du Prince Noir takes its name from a legend linking it to a hunting lodge built for the son of Edward III in the 14th century. The building seen today dates mostly from the late 15th or early 16th century, with later alterations up to the 18th century. Notable features include a corbelled turret topped with a spire bearing the English leopard, mullioned windows, and, inside, painted beam ceilings and decorated fireplaces. It is one of the few surviving examples of this type of architecture in the Bordeaux area.
