Located in the commune of Araules, in the Haute-Loire department, the Château des Hermens is a former fortified house dating from the 16th century, built on the site of a mas first recorded in 1310. Arranged in an L shape around a courtyard, the complex combines a residence with a semi-projecting tower, a stable and a barn, reflecting the rural defensive buildings once common in the Velay region during unsettled times. Inside, the main hall and the alcove bedroom still display 19th century woodwork.
