Château de Volhac stands in Coubon (Haute-Loire), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 16th century, 17th century, third quarter of the 19th century). Volhac castle stands in Coubon, in the Haute-Loire department, on a site first recorded at the end of the 11th century. This former fortified manor house, scarred by a fire during the Wars of Religion and left in ruins for decades afterwards, still displays defensive features typical of the region: turrets, hooded machicolations and rendered walls. Alterations carried out in the 19th century, including new window openings and an added storey, gave the building its present appearance.
