Overlooking the gorges of the Monne river from some forty metres, the château de Saint-Saturnin is a medieval fortress built in the 13th century and altered in the 14th and 15th centuries by the barons of La Tour d'Auvergne. Catherine de Médicis, who inherited it in 1524, had a French-style garden laid out there and hosted her son King Charles IX in 1566. Visitors can see a triple enclosure, masonry moats, machicolated towers and a keep with views over the village and valley.
