Château de Saint-Germain-de-Confolens stands in Confolens (Charente), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 12th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Perched on a rocky spur above the meeting of the Vienne and Issoire rivers, the ruins of Saint-Germain-de-Confolens castle still watch over the old bridge crossing below. Two massive round towers dating from the 15th century, joined by a residential range, are what remains of a stronghold first raised in the 12th century. Their odd shape, round outside and square within, can still be traced in the stonework. Nearby, the castle chapel, laid out as a Greek cross and now the parish church, is part of what visitors can see on site.
