In Nouic, in the Haute-Vienne region, the Château du Fraisse has belonged to the same family since the early 13th century, first named des Monstiers and later des Monstiers Mérinville. The 15th-century medieval dwelling stands alongside the Renaissance residence built around 1550 by Jean des Monstiers, bishop of Bayonne, whose gateway and fireplaces combine local granite with limestone brought from Chauvigny. Mansard-roofed outbuildings added in the early 18th century complete the estate, which underwent major restoration starting in 1890.
