To make a day of it

Château de Montagrier stands in Saint-Bonnet-de-Bellac (Haute-Vienne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 19th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Rebuilt after 1819 on the ruins of an older château, this estate in Haute-Vienne stands out for its complete architectural ensemble, combining the main residence, pavilions, a sheepfold and outbuildings in a style inspired by antiquity. The château's interior retains a notable Empire decor, including a rotunda room with columns topped by Egyptian-style capitals and a marquetry floor. The sheepfold, designed like a Greek temple with sixteen Doric columns, and a former metal aviary round out this site, where each outbuilding is said, according to family tradition, to have had a specific purpose.
