Château de Mounet-Sully stands in Bergerac (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
In Bergerac, this château was designed from 1880 onward by Mounet-Sully, a celebrated actor of the Comédie-Française, as a stage set for his own life. The building combines a tower inspired by Carolingian architecture, a Romanesque-style keep and a Gothic cloister gallery, in a deliberately eclectic mix. Inside is a small theatre where the actor and his brother performed for guests, along with lavishly decorated rooms featuring carved niches, mosaics and ironwork marked with his initials. Local tradition holds that artists such as Rodin and Rostand once spent time here.
