To make a day of it

Château de la Tour du Breuil stands in Dignac (Charente), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 14th century, first quarter of the 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Dignac, Charente, the Tour du Breuil raises its rectangular keep above the springs of the Échelle river, on a site that once guarded the approach from the Périgord region. The building has remained in the same family through the female line for more than two centuries, and still shows intact machicolations along with a wall-walk partly altered in the 17th century. Inside, a small deconsecrated chapel preserves rare murals showing a knight being dubbed, saint Michael, saint Christopher and a woman on horseback.
