What the French Ministry of Culture records

Propriété mentionnée pour la première fois en 1303, associée à la famille de Rochechouart qui la conservera jusqu'au 18e siècle. Le château, en partie détruit pendant la guerre de Cent Ans et les guerres de religion, ne fut plus habité jusqu'au 17e siècle, époque de la reconstruction d'une partie de la demeure. L'édifice est composé d'un bâtiment central (ancien châtelet d'entrée de la fin du 14e siècle, réaménagé au 19e siècle) et de trois ailes rectangulaires disposées bout à bout en arc de cercle incurvé vers le sud. Ces ailes furent entièrement remodelées aux 19e et 20e siècles. La chapelle Notre-Dame de la Consolation fut bénie le 28 octobre 1678. Le pigeonnier rond est considéré comme le plus grand de la Vienne (3300 boulins).
