Le château dépendait de la principauté de Chabanais. L'accès se fait par un portail sur un pont au-dessus des douves. Une allée plantée d'arbres conduit à l'édifice rectangulaire précédé de deux tours qui étaient à l'origine rattachées au château. Celle à l'est renferme des lambris peints. Elle aurait été aménagée en chapelle après avoir servi à la défense. Le bâtiment rectangulaire s'élève d'un étage sur rez-de-chaussée. Un avant-corps arrondi situé sur la façade postérieure affine la construction. Cet avant-corps est souligné par un escalier en pierre menant au premier étage, dans un salon rond percé de niches et orné de peintures.
