To make a day of it

Château de la Chassaigne stands in Thiers (Puy-de-Dôme), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second half of the 15th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Built at the end of the 15th century in the town of Thiers, the Château de la Chassaigne underwent major alterations in the 18th century after the Marquis de Simiane acquired the property and extended its park. Inside, a chapel displays wall paintings ranging from the Gothic period to the 18th century, while a room on the second floor retains its Louis XIV panelling. The grounds, laid out as an English-style landscape park, still preserve the archaeological traces of their 18th-century design, including terraces and ponds.
