To make a day of it

Château de la Chaize stands in Les Loges-Marchis (Manche), in the Normandie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second half of the 15th century, 19th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

At Les Loges-Marchis, the château de la Chaize sits on a site that once guarded the Airon valley against incursions from Brittany, formerly surrounded by water on three sides, with remnants of the moat still visible. The manor seen today owes much to an early 19th-century restoration, yet a 15th-century stair tower survived the changes, its base shifting from a polygonal to a square plan through a pair of corbelled supports. A Renaissance chapel stands alongside, part of an estate that stayed in the hands of one family for generations.
