What the French Ministry of Culture records

Après la démolition de l'ancien château, un nouvel édifice est construit à partir de 1769, sur les plans de l'architecte Claude-Nicolas Ledoux. Nouveauté du parti architectural avec la disparition des mansardes traditionnelles et la dissimulation des toitures derrière l'attique. En 1771, le gros oeuvre est en voie d'achèvement. En 1774, l'aménagement intérieur est mené par l'architecte Joseph Devilliers de Maison-Rouge. Puis, jusqu'en 1779, la décoration intérieure est reprise par l'architecte décorateur Jean-François-Etienne Gilet. Le domaine est racheté par le conseil général du Calvados, en 1927, qui y installe la maison maternelle du département. Cette nouvelle affection entraîne des travaux qui remodèlent les aménagements intérieurs. En 1944, façades et toitures sont endommagées par les bombardements. A partie de 1983, la restauration du château est entreprise pour l'installation de la chambre régionale des comptes.
