The château de la Chaise stands in Monétay-sur-Allier, near the Allier river, on the site of a former river port from which Saint-Pourçain wine was once shipped. Built in the 15th century under the name château du Riau, it belonged first to a treasurer of the Duke of Bourbon, then to a family of magistrates from Moulins, before passing to its current owners in the 19th century. The building is not open for visits as such, its present use being geared toward hosting guests.
