What the French Ministry of Culture records

D'abord simple fief relevant de Montrichard, Genillé fut érigé en châtellenie en 1515, avec réunion au domaine des Roches Saint-Quentin. Le premier seigneur connu en fut Adam Fumée, médecin de Charles VII et Louis XI. Le château comprend un grand corps de bâtiment accompagné, à ses angles nord-ouest et sud-ouest, de deux grosses tours cylindriques. Les angles nrod-est et sud-est portent, sur des culs de lampe, des échauguettes. Sur la façade orientale fait saillie une tour octogonale logeant une vis. Une aile courte fut appuyée en retour d'équerre à la façade orientale, entre la tour d'escalier et le mur pignon nord. Cette aile date du 17e siècle et fut prolongée postérieurement. Au sud de la cour, une aile en retour vers l'est a disparu. Les douves ont été presque complètement comblées.
