What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le domaine d'Artannes relevait du roi à cause du château de Tours, et appartenait aux archevêques de cette ville. La châtellenie fut élevée en baronnie par Henri II Plantagenet en 1180. Confisqué à la Révolution, le château fut vendu et appartient, depuis, à des laïcs. L'édifice se compose d'un bâtiment principal avec rez-de-chaussée, un étage et un comble ; et d'une aile en retour d'équerre dont le rez-de-chaussée est traversé par un passage reliant la cour d'honneur à une petite cour nord. La porte fermant le passage au nord est surmontée d'une accolade à fleuron et crochets. Aux angles nord et sud font saillie deux tours cylindriques. La façade ouest du bâtiment principal est accompagnée de deux tours polygonales. Sur cette façade, côté sud, fait saillie un petit bâtiment autrefois chapelle.
