Château de Coarraze stands in Coarraze (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second half of the 16th century, third quarter of the 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

What the French Ministry of Culture records

La seigneurie est mentionnée dès le 12e siècle. A la fin du 15e siècle, Gaston de Foix, comte de Carmaing, devient propriétaire de la terre de Coarraze et se livre à toutes sortes d'exactions qui conduisent Jean d'Albret à raser le château en 1508. Le château est accidentellement incendié en 1684 et reconstruit vers 1755. Etabli sur des sous-sols voûtés, apparents du côté nord pour former trois niveaux, l'édifice possède un avant-corps central en légère saillie, coiffé d'un fronton triangulaire. Une forte corniche ceinture le bâtiment, séparant le rez-de-chaussée de l'étage des combles couverts d'un toit refait au 19e siècle. A l'intérieur, côté nord, un escalier monumental donne accès aux chambres supérieures. Côté sud, un salon tapissé d'un papier peint chinois à décor de branchages et d'oiseaux, forme la pièce charnière de l'ensemble. Le parc présente une succession de terrasses. Au nord sont construites les grandes écuries voûtées d'arêtes, surmontées de greniers à foin. En contrebas, vers l'entrée, sont disposés les communs. Henri IV y passa sa petite enfance, sa gouvernante, Suzanne de Bourbon, ayant été baronne de Miossens et de Coarraze.
